8th Graders Take PreACT This Wednesday

On the 22nd of October, students in eighth grade will take the PreACT 8/9, an online standardized test which serves as the starting point for the ACT suite of assessments. The system culminates with the ACT, a college-placement exam currently administered in the State of Illinois to all high school juniors. During the summer of 2024, the Illinois State Board of Education made the decision to switch to the ACT suite beginning the 2024-2025 school year.

District 200 will use eighth grade PreACT 8/9 scores for multiple purposes. They provide one of the data points for high school course placement, a baseline for measuring growth during high school, and information for school and district improvement. The PreACT 8/9 contains four subject tests which align with the ACT assessments your student will take in high school. These include English, math, reading and science.

While it provides one score to use for placement, PreACT 8/9 will not be the only measure used to determine freshman courses. Other data points will also be considered for placement, including state test scores, district assessment data, grades, attendance, and feedback from teachers and parents. Your student’s results will be uploaded to Parentvue later this fall.

Please don’t hesitate to contact Scott Chedister or me if you have any questions.

Illinois PTA Reflections

Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 nationwide create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme. Entering its 56th year, this program helps them explore their own thoughts, feelings, and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence, and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.

Students submit their completed works of art in one or more of the arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts.

Safety Tip: Locking Personal Items

As we settle into the school year, let's remember to teach our students an important way to protect our personal belongings: locking them up! Here is information we share with our students, for your reference as parents.

Whether it's a backpack, phone, technology, bicycle, or scooter, personal items are valuable. Leaving them unsecured can put them at risk, whether that is in an open locker or outside at the bike racks.

Bike and Scooter Safety 🛴🚲

If you ride your bike or scooter to school, please remember to bring a strong lock and use it properly on the bike racks. A good lock is the best defense against theft. Don't rely on just resting your scooter against a wall—make sure it's securely fastened!

Personal Items: Lock it Up! 🔒

  • Gym & Hallway Lockers: Always use the combination lock on your gym and hallway lockers. Never share your combination!

  • Backpacks & Phones: Keep your backpack including smart devices (phones, watches, air pods, other headphones) locked in your locker from 8am-3pm.

Taking these simple steps helps keep our whole school community safe and focused on learning. Let's work together to make sure everyone's belongings stay secure!

Students, remember: A quick check before you walk away: Is it locked? ✅

A Note from Coach Gordon & Coach LaLonde

Both our 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams had great seasons this fall. Each team advanced to the Gold Conference semifinals, finishing with a combined record of 17-9.

It was a fantastic season of growth, teamwork, and school pride. Our Monroe teams also had the chance to support the Wheaton North Varsity team during their season, and in return, the Wheaton North players came out to cheer on Monroe during our Alumni Night. It was a great display of community and Falcon pride across all levels!
