Lowell Community,

Welcome to the 2025-26 school year! I am so excited to join Lowell school as principal this year. I have spent time over the summer talking with staff and have heard what an amazing community of parents, students, and staff we have here. I am truly looking forward to working with you and getting to know your students. I hope you have enjoyed summer with your family.

We have a few important dates coming up soon! Class lists will be released on Parent Vue on Friday, August 8th at 4:30 p.m. Supply drop off and meet the teacher is Wednesday, August 13th from 3:30-4:30. Then, join PTA for the annual Lowellapalooza! You can find more details and an opportunity to volunteer later in the newsletter.

The first day of student attendance is Friday, August 15th, and the first day of Kindergarten is Monday, August 18th. The first bell rings at 9:00 a.m. and the second/tardy bell rings at 9:05 a.m. with classroom instruction beginning promptly at 9:05.

I look forward to meeting you soon.

Mrs. Keira Quintero

Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

General Reminders:

  1. We are glad students are excited to come to school, but students should not arrive before 8:55a.m. Supervision begins at 8:55a.m. Students enter school at 9:00a.m.

  2. The tardy bell rings & all doors close at 9:05a.m. If you arrive after 9:05 a.m. you should walk your child to Door 1 and our front office will support your child getting to class. Our supervisors begin class immediately and must close all doors promptly at 9:05 a.m. Please do not knock on classroom doors after 9:05 a.m., as teachers are beginning their instruction. Our front office at door 1 is happy to support your child in getting to class after 9:05 a.m. Please do not make tardiness a habit.

  3. Cell phone use while driving is strictly prohibited in school zones per state law.

Lowell Traffic Pattern

On Willow (North side of Lowell):

  1. Cars must proceed eastbound on Willow and turn right into the pick-up zone. Students should only exit and load into cars within the pick-up zone.

  2. Cars should pull all the way forward within the pick-up zone before stopping their vehicle.

  3.  Westbound cars may not turn left into the pick-up zone.

  4. Cars must turn right out of the pick-up zone back on to Willow.

  5. Please observe the parking restrictions on Willow during school hours.

  6.  All students arriving by car will enter the building at Door #16.

  7. All students being picked up by car will wait inside at dismissal. Parents are asked to post the student name in their window. Our staff will call students out via radio to enter vehicles safely.

On Illinois (South side of Lowell):

  1.  Busses will drop off and pick up in the cut out on Lowell at student arrival and dismissal.

  2. A.M. Kindergarten Pick-Up will still take place in the cut-out on Illinois.

  3. Students arriving at school after 9:15 a.m. must come in through the main door on Illinois.

Please join us in being good neighbors to the homes surrounding Lowell. Please do not park or block driveways and refrain from hand-held mobile phone use in the school zone.

Attendance Reminders

We are looking forward to having a great school year! I want to emphasize the importance of your child attending school each day. Students who attend school regularly typically demonstrate higher learning outcomes than those with poor attendance. Being present each day affords your child all the important experiences that come with attending school such as friendships, clubs, activities, and athletics. Students also learn responsibility and work ethic through consistent attendance. Please send your child to school every day unless he or she has a contagious illness or is running a fever. Throughout this year we will monitor each student’s attendance so that we can work with families when the number of absences puts a student at risk. Thank you, for your involvement in your child’s education.

Sincerely,

Keira Quintero, Principal

Cell Phone Policy

Dear Parents,

At the June 11 Board of Education meeting, a revised cell phone policy was approved for the 2025-26 school year. The revised policy was developed with collaborative input from staff, students, and members of the Citizens’ Advisory Committee. The goal of the policy exploration was to develop a plan that would create a learning environment with fewer distractions for students and staff across all grade levels, while still providing the flexibility and responsibility of cell phone possession where appropriate.

While the revised cell phone policy can be viewed by clicking on this link, I want to provide you with a high-level overview of some of the changes at the elemtnary level that will impact our building.

Elementary School:

  • The use of cell phones and wearable devices including, but not limited to, smartwatches that have the capability to provide voice, messaging or data communication between two or more people are prohibited in school.

  • Any devices brought to school must remain powered off (not in “vibrate or “silent” mode) and stored in backpacks or designated areas (e.g., the office) throughout the day.

  • Students with documented medical needs requiring smart devices may use them with prior approval from the school administration.

I want to thank you in advance for your partnership and we implement the revised cell phone policy at the start of the 2025-26 school year. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
