A message from the principal

This past week was so amazing, from supply drop off and Lowellapalooza on Wednesday, to our first day with 1-5 grade students on Friday, we had a fantastic week. We are looking forward to welcoming our Kindergarten students on Monday.

Between Friday and Monday, I will have visited each grade level classroom and reviewed our expectations for our school. In our school community, we take FLIGHT:

F: Focus on Success
L: Love to Learn
I: Include Everyone
G: Give Respect
H: Honor Hard Work
T: Think it Through

We would appreciate you discussing these expectations at home with your child and asking them to share what it means to them.

Thanks for a great start to the school year.

Keira Quintero

Destiny Information

All District 200 schools have a library learning center (LLC) that contains books that students can check out. At our school, students visit the LLC weekly to check out books with the assistance of the LLC Director and/or their classroom teacher.  You can learn more about Lowell’s LLC  by visiting https://search.follettsoftware.com/metasearch/ui/16978.

Destiny is the library management system used by all District 200 schools. This system is online and accessible to all parents and students through each school’s website. Destiny allows all parents and students to have access to the titles of books available in each school’s LLC.  You can access it by going directly to destiny.cusd200.org, clicking through the school website, or from a student’s classlink page. You do not need to be logged in to search the catalog, but students will need to log in for some of the more advanced features.  I want to highlight a few features of Destiny available to all students and families.

Students can log in to their Destiny accounts from any device with online access. From there, they can see all books that are checked out to them. They can also put holds on titles that are checked out. Each student can create their own Favorites List to keep track of books they would like to check out.

Steps for creating a favorite list:

  1. Log in to your school’s Destiny catalog using your child’s District 200 login information.

  2. Find and open the record for the book you wish to add to your favorites list.

  3. Click on the three dots toward the right of the screen.

  4. Select “Add to Favorites”

  5. A student’s favorites list is accessible by choosing “My Stuff” at the top of the screen.

If there are particular titles in our school's collection you don't wish your child to read or are not sure they will make the distinction on their own, reach out to your child's teacher and Mrs. Amanda Raglione, our LLC director.

You can learn about Destiny and how to create a favorite list by viewing this video.

Arrival and Dismissal

We want to ensure students are safe during arrival and dismissal. Please review the following expectations regarding car line and entrance doors.

Car Line Arrival:
Please adhere to the following guidelines to ensure our car line arrival is safe, efficient, and quick.

  1. Cars proceed eastbound on Willow to enter the car line.

  2. Cars may ONLY make a right turn into the car line. Left turn into the car line is prohibited.

  3. Pull forward all the way as far as possible. Follow directions of staff outside for where to stop.

  4. Stay in your car. Do not exit your vehicle and walk your child to the building.

  5. All car line students will enter through door 16.

  6. When exiting the car line, cars must turn right onto Willow.

Car Line Dismissal:

  1. Students will wait inside during dismissal.

  2. Pull forward as far as possible.

  3. Display student name in your car for ease of identification.

  4. Stay in your car. Do NOT exit the vehicle at any time.

Additionally. please do NOT drop off your child from your vehicle near door 1 on Illinois street. That entrance is for our students who ride buses to school as well as the arrival door for walkers. It is also a safety concern for students to be dropped off in the middle of the street. If you are driving your child to school, please utilize the car line.

Arrival and Dismissal Doors:

  • Door 1--Kindergarten Desmond, 1st grade, SAIL bus riders

  • Door 3--Fifth grade

  • Door 4--Fourth grade

  • Door 6--Kindergarten Hussein and Wollen, 2nd grade

  • Door 16--All car riders

  • Door 19--BASP only

Please communicate with your child's teacher if the way your child is getting home is different than what you indicated at meet the teacher. A note in the backpack or a call/email to the office is preferred. Teachers do not often check email throughout the day. Thank you for understanding.

Chromebooks

Students in 1st - 5th grade will receive a brand new chromebook when they visit the library this coming week. We will be talking about expectations including:

  • charging it each night when it comes home

  • carrying and storing it safely to avoid damage

  • keeping it away from food and drinks

  • using it only for sites and activities that have been shared by a teacher

  • keeping settings the same unless directed by a teacher

We appreciate you helping support these expectations at home as well! Here is information from the district including how to connect to your home wifi, district expectations and the fee schedule for damages.

Coming Soon!

During the 2025-2026 school year CUSD200 will be offering interested staff members training on a new 1:1 teacher-parent communication tool called Rooms.  This feature is part of our CUSD200 mobile app.  Currently, only HS athletics and activities are fully implemented in its use for communication.  Please know that your student’s teacher(s) will communicate their preferred method of communication until Rooms is fully implemented districtwide.  In the meantime, please keep up to date with all CUSD200 news and future messaging features by downloading the latest version of our District app.  More information on this and upcoming features of our district mobile app can be found at this link. Thank you.

Breakfast and Lunch

All students in D200 schools have access to purchase breakfast and lunch at school. Our food service provider is Organic Life and the menus can be found online monthly. The cost for breakfast is $1.50 and lunch is $3.75. Student also have the option to purchase milk only, which is 75 cents. You can view the menu by clicking the link below.

Families who qualify for free or reduced would pay a reduced fee for breakfast and lunch. Please contact the school office with any questions.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

Thank you to all families who attended our Lowellapalooza last week! We enjoyed seeing everyone and meeting new Lowell families.

Our first "Cook's Night Out" is on Wednesday, August 27th at Chick-Fil-A in Danada Square. This is a wonderful time to meet Lowell families and enjoy a night off from cooking at home!

Don’t forget to join the PTA! There is no obligation to volunteer for events if you join. Members have access to a full school directory and proceeds go to supporting our students.
