📚Book Review Writers in Action! 📚

Our first graders put their thinking caps on this week as they worked together to write book reviews! Using our vertical whiteboard spaces, students made sure their reviews included all the important parts-a title, their opinion, three supporting reasons, and a conclusion. Working in groups, they checked each other’s ideas and made sure every review was complete. We’re so proud of their teamwork and growing writing skills!

Fall Festival 2025

Get ready for some festive fun! Hawthorne Elementary will celebrate our annual Fall Festival on Thursday, October 31, 2025. Students are invited to wear their costumes to school as we enjoy a day filled with school spirit and seasonal excitement.

Costume Guidelines:
To ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable day, please keep the following in mind:

  • Costumes should allow students to use the restroom, eat lunch, and participate in the school day independently.

  • Masks and headgear that cover the face or make it difficult to identify the student are not permitted.

  • Props, imitation weapons, and theatrical accessories should be left at home.

  • Costumes or makeup that are threatening, gory, or inappropriate are not allowed.

Parade Information:
Students will showcase their costumes during our annual Fall Festival Parade!

  • The parade will begin as students exit Door 1, turn left down Wakeman to the red Hawthorne sign, and complete the Monster Lap before heading back through the field and re-entering at Door 7.

  • Kindergarten students will have their own special parade following their festival time at 10:10 a.m. Their route begins at Door 14, travels in front of the school, and concludes as they re-enter through Door 7.

We can’t wait to see our Hawthorne students dressed in their creative, fun, and school-appropriate costumes as we celebrate this fall tradition together!

Donations for Hawthorne Buddies

Hawthorne Buddies is an after school program supporting our multilingual learners and connecting them to positive peer role models in the community. This gives students the opportunity to work with Wheaton North High School students as well as Wheaton College students to read stories, play games, enjoy a snack together, and work on academic areas.

Each year, our generous community helps to provide snacks for the students. If you are able to help, please sign up to donate. You can find the sign up HERE. We have 40 students in the program and are looking for snack donations or Aldi gift cards. Thank you for supporting our community.

Snack Time: A Moment to Recharge 🍎

Snack time at Hawthorne Elementary School isn’t just about eating something healthy-it’s the perfect opportunity for students to rest their minds, recharge, and connect with friends. During this time, students intentionally socialize, play games, and enjoy getting to know each other a little better. These small moments of connection help build friendships, strengthen our classroom community, and give students the energy and focus they need for the rest of their day!

The Happy Heart Award

Students at Hawthorne Elementary School are always learning and growing. One of the things we pride ourselves on at Hawthorne is the work we do to ensure students understand, demonstrate, and reinforce schoolwide expectations. At Hawthorne, students learn about the Hawthorne Way during the first week of school with Mrs. Zimmer. During the year, we work to reinforce the things we learn about the Hawthorne Way.

The Happy Heart Award is a recognition ticket given to students who go above and beyond to demonstrate the Hawthorne Way during the school day. Students who earn this will receive a ticket with their name on it, the staff member who recognized them, and the reason they were recognized. The recognition portion will go home to celebrate with family.

Congratulations to this week's Happy Heart Award drawing winners!
