Vision 2026 Updates

Wheaton-Warrenville Community Unit School District 200 is a large unit school district located in DuPage County serving approximately 11,500 students. We operate 1 early childhood center, 13 elementary Schools, 4 middle schools, 2 high schools, 1 transition center and 2 operational centers. CUSD200 employs approximately 1,200 certified staff.

Our community prides itself in working towards long term goals laid out in Vision 2026, the district’s strategic plan which highlights Academic Excellence and Operational Excellence Strategies to work towards within a four year timeframe. Vision 2026 was established in 2022.

A key Academic Excellence Strategy is implementing learning acceleration strategies and programs.  Our School Improvement team will focus on enhancing teacher efficacy by using a Collaborative Inquiry Process to focus on improving Math and Writing instruction.  This process involves four steps: 1. Frame the Puzzle of Practice 2. Determine Evidence 3. Take Action 4. Analyze Evidence.  Additionally, our teachers will be participating in a book study using either the book Building Thinking Classrooms or Rethinking Disability and Mathematics.

We will continue to support the social emotional needs of our students by ensuring student connectedness through relationship mapping and clubs.  Additionally, school attendance is crucial to a student's academic and social emotional well-being.  Therefore, District 200 will continue to use the attendance tracking analytic tool introduced last year along with a process for supporting student school attendance. Again, I want to emphasize the importance of your child attending school each day. Students who attend school regularly typically demonstrate higher learning outcomes than those with poor attendance. Being present each day affords your child all the important experiences that come with attending school such as friendships, clubs, activities, and athletics. Students also learn responsibility and work ethic through consistent attendance. Please send your child to school every day unless he or she has a contagious illness or is running a fever. Throughout this year we will monitor each student’s attendance so that we can work with families when the number of absences puts a student at risk.

We will continue the work begun last year to use meaningful assessment practices.  This includes triangulating data sources from the Illinois Assessment of Readiness, Fastbridge and classroom based assessment to measure the academic and social emotional progress of our students.  This data is also used to drive student interventions and determine where our Math/Reading Coaches will support Tier 1 (classroom instruction) and Tier 2 (small group instruction).  The use of this balanced assessment system, coaching and focused professional development for teachers saw us make achievement gains in both reading and math last year.

Facilities Update

Under the Operational Excellence Strategies a key component is addressing facilities projects identified in the Facilities Master Plan. This summer Hawthorne underwent replacement of lighting in the gym, exterior updates with a new path for Running Club, and a new chiller was installed to ensure our AC system is effective.

  9. ANY changes in dismissal (bus changes, changes in who will pick your child up, if you are running late, etc) MUST be communicated to the office and they will pass on the information to the teacher. Cell Phone Policy

At the June 11 Board of Education meeting, a revised cell phone policy was approved for the 2025-26 school year. The revised policy was developed with collaborative input from staff, students, and members of the Citizens’ Advisory Committee. The goal of the policy exploration was to develop a plan that would create a learning environment with fewer distractions for students and staff across all grade levels, while still providing the flexibility and responsibility of cell phone possession where appropriate.

While the revised cell phone policy can be viewed by clicking on this link, I want to provide you with a high-level overview of some of the changes at the elementary level that will impact our building.

Elementary School:

  • The use of cell phones and wearable devices including, but not limited to, smartwatches that have the capability to provide voice, messaging or data communication between two or more people are prohibited in school.

  • Any devices brought to school must remain powered off (not in “vibrate or “silent” mode) and stored in backpacks or designated areas (e.g., the office) throughout the day.

  • Students with documented medical needs requiring smart devices may use them with prior approval from the school administration.

I want to thank you in advance for your partnership and we implement the revised cell phone policy at the start of the 2025-26 school year. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
