LightSpeed Parent Portal

Dear Hawthorne families,

We recognize that consistent access to technology is crucial to thriving in today’s educational landscape. With that is also the recognition that we take digital safety and security seriously as students navigate digital environments. To protect our students, District 200 implements multiple content filters and regularly monitors student web activity. While the District makes every effort to keep students on task during class time and safe from inappropriate materials, we know that family support would strengthen these efforts.

Families can now opt in to receive weekly email summaries of their student’s web activity. Families can also elect to go one step further and sign up for an online account through our network’s content filter, Lightspeed, to see live web activity for their students. This portal will also give families the option to pause the internet completely overnight if they so choose. It is important to note that email summaries and online portal access are view only and do not allow families to selectively block websites or services.

If your family wishes to start the process of receiving weekly web activity summaries (which arrive on Sunday each week) with the option to add online portal access, please fill out this form. All communication moving forward regarding web activity will come from Lightspeed. Enrollment windows in Lightspeed will occur during the first week of each month.

If you have any questions, please contact Jason Spencer, Executive Director of Innovation and Technology (jason.spencer@cusd200.org).

Thank you for your partnership in helping to promote healthy digital habits with our students.

Attached here is a supplemental flier of what families can expect.

Hawthorne Elemenaty School Run-A-Thon

On Wednesday, September 10th Hawthorne students will participate in a Run-A-Thon during their P.E. period. Family and friends are encouraged to attend and to cheer on all runners near the field! The Run-A-Thon helps to fund the PTA’s support of educational programs, special events, clubs and communications for Hawthorne students, families and teachers alike. This fundraiser is the primary way that the PTA will raise money during the 2025-2026 school year. The PTA spends roughly $180 per student for educational enrichment activities the school district would not otherwise be able to fund like field trips, assemblies and school community events. Every student participates and will be rewarded for their efforts with various prizes for total laps completed and funds raised. Hawthorne families are encouraged to reach out to relatives, neighbors and friends for support. No gift is too small, and donations will be accepted until midnight on Thursday, September 11. Please CLICK HERE to donate and learn more

The Happy Heart Award

Students at Hawthorne Elementary School are always learning and growing. One of the things we pride ourselves on at Hawthorne is the work we do to ensure students understand, demonstrate, and reinforce schoolwide expectations. At Hawthorne, students learn about the Hawthorne Way during the first week of school with Mrs. Zimmer. During the year, we work to reinforce the things we learn about the Hawthorne Way.

The Happy Heart Award is a recognition ticket given to students who go above and beyond to demonstrate the Hawthorne Way during the school day. Students who earn this will receive a ticket with their name on it, the staff member who recognized them, and the reason they were recognized. The recognition portion will go home to celebrate with family.

Congratulations to this week's Happy Heart Award drawing winners!

-Mrs. Zimmer
