Dear Panther Families:
I just learned that this did not go out on Sunday afternoon as expected. So sorry! Here it is!
Parent-Teacher Conferences are Wednesday, October 4 and Wednesday, November 15 from 3:30-8 PM. On October 4, conferences will be held in-person at Edison, and on November 15, conferences will be held virtually. Links will be sent just prior to conferences. Conferences are by appointment. You can sign up for either night using this link: https://ptcfast.com/schools/Edison_Middle_School_3.
Please let us know if you need an interpreter. Also, please don’t feel obligated to meet with every teacher. This is a great time to connect with a teacher if your child is having any difficulties with their class. Also, if you feel your child is struggling with anything, there is no need to wait for conferences. Reach out to the teacher(s) anytime you need clarification. If your child is ever struggling with physical, social and/or emotional concerns, please reach out to a member of the Student Services Team:
Mrs. Chloe Soto, 6th Grade Counselor, chloe.soto@cusd200.org
Mr. Tim Hower, 7th Grade Counselor, timothy.hower@cusd200.org
Mrs. Yazmine Reeves, 8th Grade Counselor, yazmine.reeves@cusd200.org
Ms. Mary Ellen Schwartzhoff, Social Worker, mary.schwartzhoff@cusd200.org
Ms. Symone Hill, Wellness Coordinator, symone.hill@cusd200.org
Mrs. June Deetjen, School Psychologist, june.deetjen@cusd200.org
Ms. Christine Chestnut, School Nurse, christine.chestnut@cusd200.org
We’re here to help!
Also, the first quarter is already half over! If you haven’t already, this is a good time to have your child show you his/her StudentVue grade book, check for any missing assignments and discuss how to best prepare for any upcoming tests and projects. We discuss strategies in class, but it is always helpful for students to hear the same message at home. As always, thank you for your partnership!

STUDENT COUNCIL HOSTING FALL DANCE - THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 3-4:30 PM
Student Council is still in the planning stages, but the all-school fall dance is going to be Thursday, November 2 from 3:00-4:30 PM in the gym. The activity buses will run 15 minutes later that day so all students can stay until the end of the dance. This dance is CASUAL and for EVERYONE. Regardless of rumors your child may have heard, students are NOT encouraged to have “dates”. The dance is right after school, so all students are encouraged to come and have fun with their friends. More details to follow.
STUDENT SUCCESS TIPS FROM OUR COUNSELING TEAM
The importance of attending school cannot be overstated. Middle schoolers should take a sick day when truly necessary; however, it is important that they arrive at school on time every day, because having to catch up with class work, projects, tests, and homework can be stressful and interfere with learning.
Chronic absenteeism can be a sign that a student is struggling with school work or facing other serious problems.
We recommend keeping track of your child’s attendance, avoiding appointments and travel when school is in session, setting a regular bedtime and morning routine, having a back-up plan for getting to school in case something comes up such as missing the bus, and not letting your child stay home unless they are truly sick. Thank you for making your student’s school attendance a priority!
PLEASE SUPPORT THE DISTRICT 200 STUDENT EXCELLENCE FOUNDATION

LETTERS ABOUT LITERATURE IN IL – STATEWIDE READING & WRITING CONTEST
Letters About Literature in Illinois is a statewide reading and writing promotion. Students in grades 4 – 12 are invited to read a book of their choice, reflect on it, and write a personal letter to its author explaining the impact this work had on them. The program also dovetails with state and national learning standards. Students can enter individually, or through school, library and youth organizations. There are three writing levels based on the student’s grade in school:
Level I - Grades 4 - 6
Level II - Grade 7 & 8
Level III - Grades 9 - 12
There is one winning letter selected per Level. Winners receive a cash prize and a plaque from the Illinois Secretary of State. Teachers of the winners receive a certificate and a cash prize for the school to purchase books for the school library.
Runners Up from each Level receive certificates. Written submissions will be accepted for all ages until the entry deadline of December 15, 2023. Attach a completed entry form to each entry and send via US Mail or Email. State winners will be formally announced in May 2024. For more information, visit the Letters About Literature page.
