Dear Panthers and Panther Families,
The countdown to the FUN RUN has begun! We have only days left until the annual PTA FUN RUN on Friday, September 20! We are doing great work towards our goal but still have a ways to go. Thanks to all who have got the ball rolling so far. A flier went home with our Panthers two weeks ago that explains how to donate by cash or check. If you missed it, here it is: Edison FunRun2024.
As an extra incentive for students to fundraise we have some great prizes they can win. Prize baskets include Edison spirit wear, WWS spirit wear, DJ for a day, gift cards galore, and more!
Also there are special prizes for top earners.
Raise $50 and win five raffle tickets
Raise $100 and win 10 raffle tickets
Raise $200 and win 20 raffle tickets
Raise $300 and win 30 raffle tickets and an ice cream social during lunch
Raise $500 or over and have a chance to win Chicago Bulls tickets plus some Bulls spirit wear.*
*Grand Prize Chicago Bulls basket is sponsored by the following Edison parents: Lory Gallagher, Real Estate Broker for Baird & Warner (lorygallagher@bairdwarner.com), Denise Krohn, Senior Loan Broker (denise.krohn@gmail.com).
This year is going to be super fun with a special guest DJ and field day activities in addition to running. The event will end with a race between teachers that features a funny surprise twist.
Please continue to fundraise! All proceeds go to the Edison PTA which sponsors so many things throughout the school year and fosters a sense of community but also enriches the education of the students.
Come out to run or cheer your student on! Bring signs, bubbles, silly string or anything to make it fun!
The grades will run as follows:
8th grade - 1:15-1:40 p.m.
7th grade - 1:45-2:10 p.m.
6th grade - 2:15-2:40 p.m.
We are looking for some volunteers to assist with the set up, take down, and activities on the day of the event. Shift would be 12:00-3:30 p.m. Please consider helping out! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E4BA4A623A1FFC16-51404622-funrun
Lastly, we are still very much in need of parents to donate some gift cards in small amounts of $5 or $10! Please consider signing up to donate and make this special for our kids! https://www.signupgenius.com/.../10C0E4BA4A623A1FFC16...

CHARGING CHROMEBOOKS EACH NIGHT
For the last couple of weeks, there has been an uptick of students coming to school without charging their Chromebooks. The best way to ensure that Chromebooks are charged each night is for our Panthers to find a spot at home near an outlet where they put their backpack and Chromebook every night before bed. The Chromebook should be plugged in right next to the backpack. Then, in the morning, students just have to unplug the Chromebook, stash it in their backpack and head out the door. There are not enough chargers and plugs at school to accommodate all the students during the day. A charged Chromebook should last all day!
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Here are a few highlights from the Panther Pause announcements:
There will be an ALLIES Club meeting on Monday after school in Room 117.

YEARBOOK
As a long-standing tradition, parents of eighth grade students at Edison have submitted a baby photo (or childhood photo) of their son/daughter along with an encouraging message to them as they end their middle school career and transition into high school. SPECIAL EDUCATION STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES
In an effort to analyze strengths, needs, and areas for improvement within CUSD 200, District 200’s new Executive Director of Special Education Alexis Hanson will begin a series of engagement opportunities with a variety of stakeholders groups. These engagement opportunities are intended to guide the district’s future work to allow for continuous improvement of services for our students with disabilities.
With this in mind, parents who have students that receive special education services are asked to please take a survey to share their experiences and perspectives. The Special Education Parent Survey will be open until September 27, and can be completed by clicking on one of the links below:
In the coming weeks, Mrs. Hanson will also invite staff and parents from each CUSD 200 building to serve on a panel to provide further insights on their experiences with the special education services within the district. Mrs. Hanson will provide an update on the stakeholder feedback sessions at the October 23 Committee of the Whole Meeting.
