TCD Provides Students with Career Exploration/Advancement Opportunities

Did you know CUSD 200 offers high school juniors and seniors a unique chance to jumpstart their careers? Through the Technology Center of DuPage (TCD) in Addison, students can dive into hands-on career and technical education programs as part of their high school curriculum. High school students who enroll in TCD attend classes during the regular school day and have their tuition and transportation covered by the district. Several TCD programs provide students with a clear postsecondary pathway, allowing them to earn dual credit in high school, continue their studies at COD, and ultimately complete a bachelor's degree at a four-year university

TCD offers a diverse range of programs including:

  • Auto Body Repair & Refinishing

  • Automotive Technology

  • Computer Info Systems & Game Design

  • Construction Trades

Enrolling in a program at TCD provides high school students with the following valuable opportunities:

    • Emergency Medical Technician - 40 hours of clinical experience

    • Nursing - 40 hours of clinical experience

    • Cosmetology - 150 hour internship program

  • Dual Credit - Classes that earn both high school and college credit simultaneously by taking a college-level course. If a student is enrolled in a dual credit course, they must meet specific GPA and attendance requirements per class to earn dual credit.

  • Industry Credentials - Many TCD programs help students earn industry certifications and/or state licenses and can allow for entry-level employment (see table below). Additionally, many programs are certified or licensed, recognized by their industry as an official training and/or testing center.

Returning Student Registration Now Open for 2025-26 School Year

Last year, Community Unit School District 200 launched a new online registration portal for families to use when enrolling their students for school. CUSD 200 will continue to utilize the online registration process for the 2025-26 school year.

Registration for returning families for the 2025-26 school year is now open with a deadline of Friday, May 9.

To begin the online registration process for returning students, parents/guardians can navigate to our district website (www.cusd200.org) and then click <Enrollment> found in the upper right portion of the page, or click this link. Then, select the <Register Returning Student> button.

If a family has children that span across multiple CUSD 200 buildings, the receiving school of your oldest child will ensure all documents submitted in person are sent to the other appropriate buildings so that families only have to visit one location.

YouTube/Google Services Permission Notice

Depending upon the level of your student, you may see two new permission screens as a part of online registration.

Beginning with the 2025-26 school year, educational institutions must annually review and reconfirm parental consent to grant access to specific Google services if students are under 18 years old.

One of the services parents must now give consent for on an annual basis is YouTube. However, parents/guardians will only see a YouTube consent for students in grades 6-12. YouTube defaults to ON for students 6-12, so you must explicitly choose NO if you do not wish your student to have access to YouTube. Please note, YouTube is a widely used supplemental resource used to enhance instruction. At higher grade levels, students may also be using YouTube as a research resource to complete assignments. If you are a family that chooses NO, you may need to specifically work out accommodations with your student's teacher(s). Denying access to YouTube (selecting NO) will only result in a student’s independent navigation to www.youtube.com. A teacher still has the ability to embed YouTube videos inside their Google classroom or Google slide decks for students to view for academic purposes.

In CUSD 200, YouTube will automatically be turned OFF for independent navigation for all students in grades kindergarten-5. Therefore, if you have a student in elementary school, you will not see this screen because YouTube has already been preemptively turned off for independent use.

Parents/guardians of students in grades 1-12 will also see a second new permission during registration that is related to all other Google owned additional services. Additional services which can have educational use are defaulted to ON for all students grades 1-12. Thus, selecting NO to this new permission screen will turn off ALL other Google services.

If you have general questions about the enrollment process, please contact the school your child will be attending. If you experience any issues during the online portion of the enrollment process, please email SynergyParentSupport@cusd200.org.

Community Message Regarding ‘Senior Assassin’ Game

The Wheaton Police Department, Warrenville Police Department, and Community Unit School District 200 would like to inform families and our communities about a non-school-related activity among students that has raised safety concerns.

Each spring, high school seniors across the nation organize a game often referred to as “senior assassin.” This game, which has gained popularity on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, spans several weeks as participants try to "eliminate" each other using water guns or Nerf-style toy guns. Students may be seen walking through neighborhoods or hiding in public places with these toy weapons as they try to surprise their opponents.

This is not a CUSD 200-sponsored activity, and “senior assassin” is not allowed on CUSD 200 school property, at any school- or district-sponsored event, or in any way that disrupts the learning environment or violates school rules. While students may think of this as a game, it poses a potential for very real safety concerns within our communities.

The Wheaton Police Department and Warrenville Police Department do not condone this activity and would like for our communities to be aware of safety concerns related to this game. This includes the potential for community members to become alarmed if they believe there is an individual armed with a weapon; game participants interfering with traffic and putting themselves and/or others' safety at risk; and other unintentional consequences.

We strongly encourage parents to have open and honest conversations with their children about the safety concerns associated with the "senior assassin" game. Please discuss the potential for misunderstandings and alarm within our communities, emphasizing that playing this game can easily be misinterpreted in public as a real threat.

The safety of all individuals in our communities is our top priority. We are providing this message to spread awareness about this activity and its potential risks. We appreciate the important role that every person plays in keeping our communities safe.

Sincerely,

Wheaton Police Department

Part 2 - Stay cautious - The considerations and cautions of generative AI

Part 3 - Stay curious - The hope of what could be for AI in education

Part 4 - How CUSD 200 is specifically addressing AI in the classroom

Classroom Close-Up

For this week's Classroom-Close Up feature, we visited Johnson Elementary's Collaborative Learning Center, where third graders from Ms. Kendall Cavanaugh and Ms. Kelly Heighway's classes were hard at work on their biography projects.

Under the guidance of Ms. Nina Gianfrancesco, the Collaborative Learning Center Director, and teachers, students were learning to navigate the library's vast resources. Students learned how to conduct research, diving into non-fiction texts, navigating credible online sources, and translating their research into their own words, and turning it into a compelling biography.

This lesson showcased how Johnson's newly renovated library is a hub of collaborative learning, empowering students to explore, discover, and create with the support of dedicated educators.
