School Board Appreciation Day

During his report, Superintendent Dr. Jeff Schuler took a moment to recognize our dedicated school board members. With Illinois School Board Appreciation Day coming up on Friday, November 15, Dr. Schuler expressed heartfelt thanks to our board members for volunteering their time and expertise to support the mission and vision of our district.

Host school report

The November 13, 2024, Board of Education meeting was hosted by Lowell Elementary School. Principal Dr. Jacqueline Rodriguez was joined by a group of students who shared highlights from the school year.

Student Ambassadors report

The Wheaton North High School Student Ambassadors, Abigail Williams, and Carla Fonseca Gonzalez, and the Wheaton Warrenville South Student Ambassadors Katelyn Groves, Lauren Dedio and Max Dudick, provided the board with a presentation on good news, updates and feedback on a variety of topics from their respective schools.  

Proposed school calendars for 2025-26 and 2026-27 posted for review

Matt Biscan, Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services, gave a presentation on the proposed school calendars for 2025-26 and 2026-27 school years. The calendars were created after receiving input from students, staff and community members via an online survey. The calendars can be viewed by clicking on the links below:

The Board will vote on the proposed calendars during their meeting on December 11.

2024 Tax Levy presentation

During the meeting, Dr. Brian O’Keeffe, Assistant Superintendent for Business Services, presented the 2024 Proposed Tax Levy. The Board of Education will take action on the 2024 Levy at their December 11, 2024 Meeting.

CUSD 200 safety website and committee presentation

Matt Biscan, Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services, was joined by members of the CUSD 200 Safety Committee to provide the Board with an overview of the committee. During the presentation, the group talked about:

  • The history of the CUSD 200 Safety Committee

  • Who is part of the committee, and the variety of experiences and training they bring to the committee

  • The new CUSD 200 Safety and Security Website

  • Examples of focus areas for the committee

Board approves contract for summer 2025 facilities work

In keeping true to the Board’s commitment to be fiscally responsible and seek opportunities to address high-priority capital facility projects, the Board approved a Resolution and Final Contract for Guaranteed Energy Savings with Performance Services, Inc. for Summer 2025 work. Projects identified include:

  • Rooftop unit and chiller replacements at Bower Elementary School

  • Chiller replacement and building automation control upgrades at Emerson and Hawthorne elementary schools

  • Mechanical updates at Johnson Elementary School in two storage rooms being converted to learning spaces.

Building automation control upgrades at both high schools

New curriculum content posted for community review and feedback

The Board approved to post the following high school curriculum content for community review:

  • AP Precalculus - A new high school course offered by the College Board to prepare students for college-level calculus. This course is a comprehensive preparation for AP Calculus AB or BC and is ideal for students aiming to study STEM fields in college.

  • Social Media Marketing - A dual credit course connected to the Marketing Pathway. Students who take this course have the opportunity to earn three hours of college credit in MARKET 1150 through College of DuPage (COD). 

  • Introduction to Literature - A Transferable General Education Dual Credit Course where students can earn 3 credits for Humanities.  This would be an elective for seniors.

  • Project Lead the Way Engineering Essentials - Project Lead the Way (PLTW) offers a comprehensive Engineering Pathway for high school students, featuring a series of courses aimed at building engineering skills and preparing students for post-secondary studies or careers in STEM fields. The introductory course, Engineering Essentials, gives students a foundational understanding of engineering, covering various disciplines and essential skills.

Board approves to post revised policies

At their meeting, the Board approved one revised policy to be posted for public review and comment, and approved three revised policies. To view the revised policy, click here.
